2012.02.23

February 14, the National Science and Technology Awards Ceremony was held by the CPC Central Committee and State Council at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Party and State leaders Hu Jintao, Wen Jiabao, Li Changchun, Li Keqiang attended the ceremony. "The Cruxes on Design and Construction of Cylindrical & Super-stable, Ultra-deep Water Drilling Unit "SEVAN650" project developed by COSCO Shipyard Group Co., Ltd. ("COSCO Shipyard ") was awarded the First Prize of the "2011 National Science and Technology Progress Award". This is the highest recognition in the field of science and technology to be received by China Ocean Shipping (Group) Company ("COSCO Group") since its establishment 50 years ago while it is the first time for domestic marine engineering equipment manufacturing enterprises winning national science and technology award.

On February 15, Chairman of COSCO Group, Party Secretary, Wei Jiafu, General Manager of COSCO Group, Deputy Party Secretary, Ma Zehua and all members of management team cordially met the representative of "SEVAN650" project team which won the First Prize of the "2011 National Science and Technology Progress Award" at the Ocean Plaza, Beijing. Wang Xingru, Managing Director of COSCO Pacific, made strategic decision on the development of "SEVAN650" in 2007 when he was General Manager of COSCO Shipyard. He has overcome difficulties together with the project team's expects. Ultimately, they completed today's world offshore oil drilling platform which is the most powerful high-end leading products with the highest level of technology in only 24 months (six months shorter than the construction cycle of similar product).

As a breakthrough of traditional idea, the award-winning project "The Cruxes on Design and Construction of Cylindrical & Super-stable, Ultra-deep Water Drilling Unit" achieves the integration of drilling and oil storage by the main hull with a design of anti-huge storm cylindrical structure. The designs for water depth and drilling depth are 12,500 ft and 40,000 ft respectively. In November 2009, COSCO Shipyard successfully applied the technology and constructed the first world's most advanced ultra-deep water cylindrical drilling unit "SEVAN650". COSCO Shipyard has owned a number of intellectual property rights of "Ultra-deep Water Super-stable Cylindrical Drilling Unit" and created a unique series of product market with 100% international market share.
